Webasto supports customers in successfully electrifying vehicles worldwide. We have developed modular and scalable Standardized Battery Systems according to the requirements in the market for commercial vehicle and mobile machinery. This is optimally supported by our own thermo management solution. It extends the range, accelerates the charging process, optimizes recuperation in cold conditions and promotes the longevity of the battery.

Advantages of the Standardized Battery Systems

Scalable battery system

Up to 18 batteries can be connected using intelligent interfaces - the Webasto Vehicle Interface Box or the Vehicle Interface Gateway - to achieve a system configuration of 400 volts or 800 volts.

Thanks to its robust housing, the Standardized Battery is the perfect fit for demanding applications. Especially for industrial vehicles, it offers reliable performance even under extreme conditions.

Highest safety standards

The highest safety and quality standards guarantee a reliable overall system. Our batteries are intensively tested, including corrosion and leakage tests, thermal shock tests, and vibration tests.

Production and testing

The Standardized Battery Systems meet the highest requirements for quality, safety and performance. Webasto produces according to the strictest German safety standards and prototype development as well as testing are also carried out in-house. This allows us to guarantee high standards and continuously develop our products. 

 

In the test and prototype center in Hengersberg, we carry out execute, state-of-the-art corrosion and leakage tests or thermal shock tests and validate both cells and battery systems on an ongoing basis. It offers capacities for building up to 1,200 battery system prototypes per year, enabling Webasto to guarantee rapid internal set-up and thus short development cycles.

Holistic approach for sustainable battery production

In addition to technological progress, Webasto is also committed to its ecological responsibility. We think along the entire development, production and product cycle and actively work to reduce our ecological footprint with various initiatives and projects. At the Schierling site, a large part of the energy requirement is covered by our own photovoltaic system. With an output of up to 750 kWp, battery production can be supplied with 100% solar energy. Together with the 2 MW combined heat and power plant, renewed in 2023, the PV system is an important building block in Webasto's overall strategy for sustainable battery production and a perfect example of a comprehensive energy concept. In the coming years, the site will be continuously developed - with sustainability as the guiding principle.

Vehicle Interface Box (VIB)

With the Vehicle Interface Box (VIB), communication between the battery system and the vehicle runs via a single interface. The VIB enables up to ten battery systems to be interconnected and controlled.

Vehicle Interface Gateway (VIG)

The Vehicle Interface Gateway (VIG)  acts as an efficient communication gateway between multiple battery packs and the vehicle. It enables battery system scalability by allowing up to 18 Webasto CV standard battery packs to be combined.
