Schierling/Stockdorf – August 3, 2026 – Webasto has started production of the high-performance battery system for the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé at its Schierling plant in Germany. The project includes both module and pack assembly for the sports car’s battery concept. The project further strengthens the site's position as a leading technology and competence center for the battery production.

“The highly automated industrialization of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé marks an important step in our relatively young battery business,” said Marco van der Weerd, EVP Battery Systems. “The battery system is designed for maximum performance, and the product’s complex design places exceptionally high demands on manufacturing technology and quality. The successful industrialization of this project is the result of the strong commitment and close collaboration of many teams. We are particularly proud of what our employees have achieved.”

The battery system uses a direct-cooling concept in which oil circulates directly around the battery cells. This enables high and consistent cooling performance for each individual cell –a key prerequisite for the battery’s exceptional performance. Implementing this direct-cooling technology places particularly stringent demands on automation and production processes.

“This project demonstrates what is possible when customer and supplier work closely together from the very beginning,” said Webasto CTO Marcel Bartling. “Mercedes-AMG’s trust in our technological and manufacturing expertise underscores our ability to industrialize highly sophisticated battery systems.”

At the Schierling plant, numerous manufacturing processes are seamlessly integrated across highly automated production lines, including advanced laser welding technologies and AI-supported inspection systems. These technologies help ensure quality and process stability throughout production and verify that every battery meets the defined performance parameters under demanding operating conditions.
