Managing environmental and social topics in a changing mobility market
Mobility is changing – and so are the expectations placed on companies in the automotive supply industry. Guided by its purpose, “Make individual mobility more enjoyable and sustainable by advancing technology and people,” Webasto addresses environmental and social topics across its business activities, product development, and stakeholder dialogue.
The company focuses on material areas where it can manage impacts, risks, and opportunities – in line with regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and internal governance processes.
Since 2022, Webasto has published an annual Sustainability Report covering its strategy, actions, selected indicators, achievements, and challenges. For fiscal year 2025, Webasto voluntarily prepared its Sustainability Report in alignment with the CSRD, ESRS, and EU Taxonomy.
Strategy, management & governance
Webasto integrates sustainability-related topics into corporate strategy, governance, internal steering, and reporting. In a volatile market environment, Webasto is implementing a restructuring program to improve profitability and competitiveness by streamlining structures, strengthening regional responsibility, and accelerating customer-oriented decisions. Sustainability-related topics are considered as part of this transformation.
Sustainability strategy and focus
Webasto’s sustainability strategy focuses on material topics identified through its double materiality assessment process. It defines priorities, targets where applicable, and measures for material areas, supported by a global cross-functional program covering human rights, resource efficiency, circularity, pollution prevention, climate-related activities, and social responsibility.
Governance and implementation
The Management Board has delegated the management of sustainability matters, including related impacts, risks, and opportunities, to the Sustainability Committee. The Management Board retains ultimate responsibility and ensures the proper execution of delegated duties through ongoing oversight and monitoring.
The Sustainability Committee serves as the decision-making body for material sustainability topics. It was established by the Webasto Management Board, is chaired by the CEO, and comprises the heads of relevant functions, regions, and business units. Webasto’s sustainability strategy is developed and implemented as part of a global sustainability program led by the Head of Sustainability and sponsored by the CEO. Cross-functional working groups support its implementation.

Climate & circularity
Webasto addresses climate change, circular economy, and resource use across its operations and value chain. Climate change presents risks and opportunities, including greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, regulatory changes, and shifting market demand. Webasto’s manufacturing activities are resource- and energy-intensive. The company manages related environmental impacts through defined processes and measures and expects continued demand for selected products linked to alternative drive technologies.
Advancing transformation
Since 2022, Webasto has assessed climate and environmental impacts as part of an initial climate strategy project.
The company has improved data availability, reporting processes, and management of material indicators such as energy and waste. These efforts support future decision-making as requirements for emissions management and climate strategy continue to increase.
A circular economy aims to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency by keeping materials and products in use longer. Environmental benefits depend on the measure, product, application, and system boundaries. Webasto’s initial actions include assessing recycled and secondary materials and improving recyclability through assessments aligned with ISO 22628.

Employees & workplace goals
Webasto advances its transition roadmap through decarbonization actions across operations and the value chain. This includes expanding renewable electricity use, implementing energy efficiency measures and improving supply chain transparency to support Scope 3 upstream reductions. Enhanced ESG data management, combined with clear governance and accountability, supports reliable data and targeted emission reduction measures.
Webasto currently applies regulatory waste management requirements supported by structured processes. Group-wide circular economy targets are planned as data availability improves.
* All targets refer to the base year 2021 and are aligned with SBTi principles.
For details, see the Sustainability Report 2025.
People & human rights
Webasto addresses employee-related and human rights topics through sustainability management, including structured processes for equal opportunities, employee development, engagement, leadership, grading, and performance management.
Supplier standards and due diligence
Webasto aims to align suppliers with defined social and environmental standards while managing cost efficiency, quality, and reliable delivery. The Supplier Code of Conduct sets binding minimum requirements and complements frameworks such as the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (SCDDA), covering internationally recognized principles including human rights, non-discrimination, diversity, and environmental standards. Human rights due diligence is applied across operations and the value chain through risk-based processes, including software-based assessments, standardized questionnaires, and supplier contractual clauses in line with regulatory requirements.
Webasto also supports selected social initiatives in the communities where it operates, including activities supported by corporate engagement and, where applicable, the Webasto Foundation.
