Stockdorf/ New Delhi – February 26, 2026 – Top 100 automotive supplier Webasto is to open a third production plant in India. The new facility in the Delhi region is scheduled to go into operation in the fourth quarter of 2026, announced Joerg Buchheim, CEO of the Webasto Group, during a visit to India.

Growing demand for sunroofs

The expansion is driven by the continued rise in demand for openable roof systems for the Indian automotive market. The new plant is located between Manesar and Kharkhoda in northern India and will primarily supply customers in this region. The facility is planned to support an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 units.

With the new location and existing plants in the west and south of the country, Webasto is now represented in all major automotive clusters in India and is increasing its total capacity to two million roofs per year. The new plant ensures proximity to customers, increases flexibility, and strengthens the company's strategy of producing directly in its target markets.

"With our presence in a third automotive cluster, we are able to support customers with greater speed — enabling us to deliver solutions tailored to India’s diverse market and create meaningful employment opportunities across the country," says Vikas Prasad, President of Webasto India.

India as a strategically important market for Webasto

At the beginning of the year, Joerg Buchheim took part in a German business delegation accompanying Chancellor Friedrich Merz on an official trip to India – further proof of India's growing importance for German industry and for Webasto.

"Our investment in a third Indian location shows the key role this market now plays in Webasto's global activities. India is a driving force for the mobility of the future," says Joerg Buchheim. Since 2019, Webasto has invested more than 110 million euros in the expansion of its Indian business; a total of 174 million euros is planned by 2030.
