Teamwork: The Air Top Evo Heating System from Webasto
A combination of several Air Top Evo models allows cost-effective and efficient heating systems with output of up to 22 kW
Stockdorf/Munich - 01.07.2009 - – Webasto has further developed its Air Top Evo models. Thanks to new control electronics, powerful heating systems consisting of up to four air heaters can now be installed. This flexibility allows the heating power to be adjusted to suit every commercial vehicle. The tried and tested Air Top Evo 3900 and 5500 models form the basis of the modular concept. They are connected in parallel to build up a heating system and are suitable for vehicles that require cost-effective, robust and easy-to-install heating systems, such as large ambulances or transporters for goods sensitive to cold. All diesel vehicles operating on 12 volt and 24 volt can be fitted with the Air Top Evo heating systems.

Air Top Evo heating systems provide up to 22 kW
To heat the interior, only as many units switch on as are actually needed to produce warmth. The smallest system solution provides 7.8 kW and comprises two Air Top Evo 3900 models. The maximum heat output of 22 kW is achieved by interconnecting four Air Top Evo 5500 systems. To compare, a large tiled stove has heating power of some 9 kW.

“Little time is needed to install several air heaters,“ says Robert Lang, head of the Heavy Duty business segment at Webasto. “The units are simply connected together and then configure themselves fully automatically. The modular concept makes it possible to subsequently extend Air Top Evo units that have already been installed to become powerful heating systems in a cost-effective manner.“

Additional advantages of the Air Top Evo System
The AirTop EVO models use diesel fuel from the vehicle’s fuel tank as their energy source. Thanks to modern combustion technology, each unit consumes between 0.2 and 0.7 litres per hour depending on the power version and the heating power set. In summer, a ventilation mode helps to markedly reduce the temperature in the interior. A further advantage is the integrated high-altitude adjustment, which automatically adapts combustion to the lower amount of oxygen in the air. This ensures optimum operation at elevations of up to 2,200 metres above sea level.

The Webasto Air Top Evo heating system control
The heating systems are controlled from a single control panel. There are various models to choose from. The basic control panel offers a simple rotary control. Those who want to set the exact time for the heating to start can choose the convenient digital timer. The high-end model is the MultiComfort control panel. This regulates several modes including an energy-saving mode (Eco), a booster mode (an additional 10 percent heating power), an altitude adjustment and a ventilation mode.
