Stockdorf/Munich. - There’s excitement in the air which is bound to swell the ranks of the Mini’s already large fan club: this little success story is now also available as a convertible. First Webasto contributed the sunroof to the successful Mini One and Mini Cooper and now, after two years of development it’s the turn of OASYS, the Webasto and Pininfarina joint-venture company, to provide the wide open spaces.

The new top is made of high-quality roof fabrics and incorporates a large sunroof. The top opens and closes fully automatically at the touch of a button and is completely hands-free, as there’s no handle to turn for locking and unlocking. The folding roof slides back and the rear side windows fold away in just 15 seconds. Last but not least, the top, which is available in three colours, collapses into three Z-folds and packs away behind the back seats. Because the exterior of the top’s front section covers the folded roof, there is no need for a tarpaulin.

Another advantage of the Z-fold is that it folds the top away so compactly that of the 165 litres of luggage space measured when the roof is closed, around 120 litres are still available. It also means that the convertible version of the Mini remains a proper four-seater.

The integrated sunroof is both a technical highlight and a unique feature in the fiercely contested convertible segment: also electrically driven, it opens smoothly up to 40 cm at the touch of a button, providing that true open-air feeling – thanks to its opening which stretches across the whole width of the car. And this at speeds of up to 120 km/h. Both top and sunroof can be operated via the key using the remote control of the central locking system. The heated glass rear window rounds off the impression of top quality and durability delivered by this extraordinary convertible roof system.
