• The Accusphere II parking air conditioning system ensures optimal comfort in the driver’s cab of parked vehicles • New storage technology brings improved performance in a smaller package
Stockdorf/Munich. – With the launch of its Accusphere parking air conditioning system back in 1998, Webasto set the standard for air conditioning in the cabs of stationary HGV vehicles. Now, with the new Accusphere II, Webasto is presenting a system that incorporates some trendsetting improvements in all main areas.
The resulting increase in performance is impressive. While offering the same cooling capacity, the Accusphere II is approximately half the size of its predecessor, thanks to the new storage technology which forms the core element of the system. While in the past a water-based CFC-free medium was used in the reservoir, now you put water in a new type of storage structure which has greater heat conductivity. This technology combines two essential features of both media: On the one hand, water is an excellent storage medium due to its high density. On the other hand, the high heat conductivity of the new storage structure considerably increases storage and extraction performance. The new storage structure also largely accommodates the expanded volume of the water during the transition phase, i.e. when its physical state changes from liquid to solid. Other combinations of materials produce far inferior results.
The benefits of the new technology: while offering the same volume as its predecessor, the cooling capacity available in night-time operation has increased from six to at least 10 hours. Depending on the layout, the system offers a fully adjustable output of over 1000 W.
The Accusphere II can either be integrated in the HGV’s existing air conditioning system, where it then absorbs and stores excess cold during the journey, or installed as a self-sufficient, electrical refrigeration cycle. In this case, the on-board voltage is sufficient. Other special features of particular interest to vehicle manufacturers: The shape of the storage unit is extremely flexible, making it suitable for installation in more difficult areas. What’s more, Webasto parking air conditioning systems can be installed either outside or inside the vehicle. In comparison with systems based on other construction principles, it also stands out as a featherweight offering a higher storage volume.
The benefits of the Accusphere II for HGV drivers are obvious: Whether during breaks, when waiting or at night, the temperature in the driver’s cab is always pleasant and refreshing – and, because the engine is switched off, it is kind to the environment and to your wallet. And a driver who sleeps well despite the heat of the night is a safer driver.
